Facebook: Everyone's Doing It
Let’s face it: Facebook is here to stay, whether you like it or not. Nearly all who are reading this blog post right now have a Facebook page. It’s just one of those things that has become a part of our daily life, with businesses being no different.
Restaurants have been one of the more effective businesses to utilize social media. Often, a restaurant will use Facebook to mention special deals or to giveaway a free meal. And big restaurant companies aren’t the only ones who utilize this outlet. Small, local restaurants have also effectively utilized Facebook to gain attention and to drive traffic. Here are some local restaurants in Louisville, KY that I believe are good examples for other local restaurants to copy in the use of Facebook.
Molly Malone’s is an Irish pub with two locations in Louisville and another in Covington, KY, outside of Cincinnati. It’s one of the most popular establishments among Louisvillians, especially around St. Patrick’s Day, and it’s a good example of a restaurant utilizing Facebook to attract customers. Here are some reasons why Molly Malone’s is a good example:
- They update their Facebook status more than once a week, a very important aspect for being effective in social media.
- They talk about special deals they have that day.
- Their pictures include shots of the restaurant, customers, and events.
Papalinos NY Pizzeria
Papalinos NY Pizzeria has only been around since 2010, but it’s making a big splash in Louisville by producing some of the finest pizza you can find. Papalinos is also very good with their use of Facebook. These are some things I noticed about them:
- Like Molly Malone’s, they update their status several times a week.
- They have pictures of ingredients they use.
- They talk about special deals they have.
- They show their personality through their comments.
Mark's Feed Store
Mark’s Feed Store is a very popular barbecue restaurant in Louisville. Out of these three restaurants, Mark’s Feed Store uses social media the best. They do many of the exact things the other two restaurants do with Facebook and Twitter, but here are a couple of reasons why they are set apart in their use of social media:
- They recognize customers.
- They showcase their employees.
- They don’t just talk about themselves but post about local community events.
By Mark’s Feed Store doing these three things, they show they are concerned about people, not just about business. To be sure, the reason why social media is used is to attract business by being involved in your online community. But social media should also be used to show your gratitude for your customers and your employees, something Mark’s Feed Store has done very well.
Doing Social Media Well
As social media continues to evolve, the emphasis upon doing social media well will continue to increase. Like larger restaurant chains, local restaurants need to recognize this. These three Louisvillian restaurants have done well with Facebook . Other local restaurants across the country can take a lesson from their book by implementing Facebook to attract customers and to interact with followers in their community.
