Grease traps - a.k.a. grease trap interceptors - are one piece of commercial restaurant equipment that's easy to overlook. There are more exciting and aesthetically pleasing pieces of equipment out there, to be sure. But few other pieces of equipment provide such an important service to restaurants and commercial kitchens as the grease trap. Basically, the trap acts as a collection point for excess fats, oils, and greases from kitchen sewage before it reaches the main sewage line. As a result, this simple piece of equipment prevents the main sewage treatment plant in your local area from being clogged with an excessive amount of fats, oils, and greases, thus adverting a potential disaster. Atlantic Metalworks's GI-40 is designed with this purpose in mind and comes constructed with durable carbon steel. The GI-40 has an overall capacity of 40 lbs and can take in approximately 20 gallons of waste per minute, making the 40lb grease trap perfect for medium-sized restaurants and commercial kitchens. Furthermore, the GI-40 is PDI (Plumbing and Drainage Institute) certified and comes with a one year warranty against defects in material and/or workmanship from the time of purchase. Overall, Atlantic Metalworks’s 40 lb grease trap interceptor offers restaurant owners a dependable and affordable solution for their grease collecting needs.

Atlantic Metalworks GI-40 - 40 lb 20 gpm Grease Trap Interceptor is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from well built - right price Atlantic Metalworks GI-40 - 40 lb 20 gpm Grease Trap Interceptor, this unit is well built, comes with the correct parts and is easy to remove the lid. Would like to see a better gasket type used, the foam based gasket tends to absorb moisture and also is very soft, after repeated clean-outs of the grease trap the gasket needs to be replaced.  Overall the Grease Trap Interceptor works perfect and will last many years with proper maintenance. I have and will continue to send my commercial kitchen owners to Prima for equipment.

I am looking to install a floor mount grease trap in a new commercial kitchen. Mild use is expected. The sink we are looking at is a 3 bay sink each bay 18x18x12. What is the recommended size/flow rate

Asked by: ross
A standard calculator for the gallons per minute you might need would be: ((length in inches) x (width in inches) x (depth in inches) x (number of bowls)) ÷ 231 x .75 = gallons per minute needed. Gallons per minute (GPM) doubled will equal the storage capacity of the unit. So a 50 GPM need will require a 100 pound unit. In this case, the formula would be (18 x 18 x 12 x 3) ÷ 231 x .75 = 37.87 gallons per minute, or about 80 pounds of storage. So the or would be the best options for you. While this is a decent formula, be sure to go to check with your local health inspector to ensure that the figure you come up with will meet the minimum that they will require.

Can this replace a Watts WD 20

Asked by: rosie57
Yes, I believe so. It could certainly serve the same role and function. The sizes match very closely, but if you are considering it filling an existing hole, you may wish to examine our spec sheet for the unit ( just to ensure this to be the case. If you had any questions, please feel free to give us a call!

I have a 25gallons trap; measurements 24' by 17.5' deep 20, input above the hole is 4' side is 7' the hole is 3' Output above the hole is 9' side is 7.5 the hole is 3'  Question is if I purchase the 25gallons Carbon traps is it going to fit?

Asked by: Nate
It looks like the GI-50 (a 25 gpm unit) might be a little large for your existing hole. Here is the cut sheet for that unit: The GI-40 ( might be a better fit for you. To determine this for certain though, I would recommend checking under the "specs" tab. Feel free to call (888-810-5043) or email us if you have further questions!
