The GI-8 grease trap from Atlantic Metalworks is a carbon steel grease interceptor certified by the Plumbing and Drainage Institute and capable of handling a drain flow of 4 gallons per minute. With a holding capacity of 8 lbs, the GI-8 is a good fit for many single compartment sinks; but, since multiple factors affect sizing, your local health & plumbing requirements will be the final rule. Hydromechanical grease interceptors like the GI-8 depend on a simple yet effective baffle system that enlists agitation and Bernoulli's principle to separate fats and oils out of the water and lift them to holding area. This keeps excess grease in your waste water from washing into your drainage pipes where it can clog your system and cause expensive plumbing issues. Speaking of guarding against expense, Atlantic Metalworks grease traps fit the two rules of thrift: 1) Don't pay too much 2) Buy something solid. Constructed of heavy carbon steel, these traps are anything but flimsy and their corrosion-resistant enamel coating helps guard against rust. As to price, a smart shopper like you already knows the GI-8 is one of the most affordable grease interceptors you can buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from somewhat difficult to install The inlet and outlet ports are 2" metal slip (no threads). To install this under a kitchen sink took several pvc adapters and reducers with lots of primer and glue. Took a while to install but working good so far. Havent had it long enough to open the lid and see if it is trapping grease.

I make and sell home made brittle. I put paraffin in my candy. My concern is about the paraffin clogging my pipes and getting into my septic tank I can't help but wonder if this would be a good choice for my kitchen.

Asked by: Gram101
This is a good question. The short answer is that I am unsure whether this will be a perfect fit for wax because it is designed and marketed to trap other contaminants, but it should help. Grease traps such as this one are primarily designed for capturing grease, fat, oil, and food solids. I am unsure of the dynamics of wax in water, but it should catch some solid stuff, and have some function even for melted wax, but the effectiveness will depend on how much of your wax is melted, the flow rate of your water, and probably other factors of which I am unaware. Due to these uncertainties, I cannot guarantee that this grease trap would be the best for your candy business, though I imagine that it would help. A larger sized trap, such as a GI-40 or GI-70, might perhaps give your wax more time to solidify, given the greater volume capacity of the trap. I hope that these thoughts help! Please feel free to call us at 888-810-5043 if you would like to discuss this further.

what do I use to connect the pipe and grease trap together

Asked by: Daddy Rabbit
You would need a No-hub coupling to attach the pipes to the grease trap. They are pretty inexpensive and available at most hardware stores.

The connections are not threaded. You'll need no hub couplings to fit the trap to your plumbing.
