The Prima Mix is a series of regular blog posts that we hope will keep you informed and entertained when it comes to your knowledge of the food and restaurant industry.

Insight

I think that a cast iron skillet is one of the best pieces of cooking equipment to have in your home or restaurant. As long as you take care of them, they last, well, a really long time. And they’re just plain fun to cook with. My wife gave me a grill with cast iron plates and I am really enjoying its versatility and durability. There are two main lines of thought about how to care for them, and if you ever plan on getting an Iron Panini Grill you’ll definitely want to check this out: Cast Iron: The only pan you’ll ever need.

Also, check out some great Cast Iron recipes if you are looking for ideas or unsure about what you would actually do with one except ward off home intruders.

Food for Thought

Perhaps a little known fact: Cast Iron was used in some of the first skyscrapers for its incredible resiliency (Thanks to Britannica for this info).

In the Loop

Check out "A Pop-Up Greenhouse Could Bring Farm-Fresh Food To Food Deserts" from Fast Company. This idea could aid in bringing farm fresh food to low income families, and make it more reasonable for restaurants to offer an increasing variety of farm quality, local foods.

Food in Motion

I don’t have a way of describing this video, you’ll just have to watch it.
